etherealism

an illustration commissioned by talented Valeria (aka Puppe) for a zine to be published in Argentina. the topic is ethereal. a bit of a challenging process as the brief stated B/W and i'm not used to making monochrome, black and white artwork... still not sure about my final piece, i'd love to hear what you think :)

Thereza, this is magnificent! It takes a special gift to integrate photography and illustration this effectively. You have such great diversity... love the side step from your usual works but still so very much reflects you and your creative DNA. :)

thanks Amy! i'm glad to get a first and very positive indeed comment. i guess it's something to experiment further with... ohh and about the magnetic board, i'd already thought about it, just keep forgetting to photograph it weekly. should i put a 'post it' note with a reminder on it? hehehe

i think it's absolutely delightful. i gasped when i opened your blog page, if that tells you how much i like it. that little trail of thinking/ dreaming from the animal to the word...it's perfect.

absolutely beautiful b&ws.

I read your post on copyright too, and yes, that is such a difficult matter. The flip-side of sharing. But we can't stop sharing. (That would be the awful shame).

A while ago, I came across an artists book, who featured a pattern I had also seen on a blog I don't consider the one of a copycat - who has a very significant style, and yet this pattern was almost identical with this published artist's pattern. It made me think a lot about how we sometimes perhaps are inspired by similar things, and therefore create things not far from each other. Maybe I'm down-right naïve, and she plain stole the thing. I don't know.
Direct stealing - like in the ex from BBiC - is clear-cut. But the inspiration-part is one tuff deal. Huge grey area there.

I'm sorry you have been copied. It must feel nasty. And I understand your reluctance to enter the discussion with the artist in question, too.

I looked at this one yesterday ... but didn't come around to comment on it.

It's so silent to me. Normally I don't experience your work as quiet (not screaming either!)

Hi Thereza, I used to come here as mariarain, but i gave up the blog. I continue visiting tiny as i love your work and i also follow you in flickr. I was also invited by Valeria to the zine and let me tell you that this work is amazing! I found it very difficult to work in black and white, even when i do a lot in those colours.. well, just that, i really love what you've done!!

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
