the word for me this week has been 'stuck'... not sure whether it's because of the winter light, or lack of it, should i say... this afternoon i decided to stop thinking and play with the first random thing i could find from a drawer i don't open often. so there came oil pastels and i'd forgotten how much fun one can have with them. there's also something interesting about limiting oneself to one single medium. i played so much that i've ended up with a cool little book out of the experiment. i'll show the finished book here soon. i still have not found any solution for any of the ongoing projects i'm working on yet and this whole process can be quite frustrating... but this little exercise with the oil pastels reminded me that most of the time nice solutions can only be found through play :) what do you do when you get stuck?

fabulous mix of color and pattern! love it, please show more!
funny, i was thinking of getting my pastels out too. when i get stuck, i go for a walk. walks cure almost everything. for me anyway.
Thanks Julianna! just posted the results. hope you enjoy it :)
Nathalie: walks are great, i know, but even that didn't work for me this week...
well, there's always a new one coming up, a better one i hope :)
ugh, the stuck feeling...I know it well. With clients it usually happens for me when I am not fully understanding the bones of the project. I think of it as being like diving into a swimming pool when I was a kid learning to swim. I would dive in and be a little scared until my foot hit the bottom of the pool and then I could start to swim. Sometimes I would have to go deeper before I could swim. Don't know if this helps at all...
Well Joan, i do understand what you mean... it's just that things sometimes don't go your way. whatever you do... we just have to keep digging deeper, as you rightly said... leave any comfort zone and dive in... and that was the whole point of the play with the oil pastels :)
Love these - so inspiring!
thanksss!!! just an exercise to free up stuff in the mind :::)
great book you've put together!
i think playing should help you out when stuck. I browse books, magazines and zines, visit bookstores or go for a long walk. Most of the time I see things that help me with my project.
When I get stuck I try to doodle in my notebook. I get really comfortable on my couch (feet on the coffee table), cup of tea, cookies...
If that doesn't work I try to forget about it and go outside for a walk and a cup of coffee:)
Love your work!
long walks and getting away from the pressure for a moment sometimes helps. lately i've been doing crochet - the rhythm helps shake the thoughts loose, i think because i can see something productive coming out of each stitch.
i love your book. even when you're stuck you still produce beautiful things!
thanks for all the suggestions guys. i'm going through all my sketchbooks and organizing and scanning stuff, so that helps too as i often forget what i already have... will def be going from there :)
